About the Role

We’re seeking a dedicated Quality & Welding Assurance Officer to oversee welding compliance, quality assurance, and documentation within our busy fabrication workshop. You’ll ensure all welding and fabrication activities meet company, client, and Australian Standards while supporting a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all workshop activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company, client, and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain control of materials and ensure the security of components and equipment.
  • Develop, review, and submit Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for approval.
  • Review scopes of work and assign Weld Procedures in line with project specifications.
  • Develop & implement project-specific Quality Control (QC) documentation and Pre-Heat Sheets.
  • Create and maintain Weld Maps for each project.
  • Liaise with third-party specialists to develop and qualify new weld procedures when required.
  • Verify and maintain personnel qualifications (welders, inspectors) through internal or external training.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections within the workshop environment.
  • Identify and document Non-Conformances (NCRs) and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Check and compile QA documentation for Manufacturer Data Reports (MDRs) and Record Data Reports (RDRs).
  • Conduct random inbound material inspections and verify compliance against specifications.
  • Support workshop compliance, internal audits, and assist during client or third-party audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Australian Standards related to welding and fabrication.

About You

  • Previous experience in a fabrication or heavy engineering workshop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, codes, and QA documentation.
  • Competent in developing ITPs, QC reports, and weld maps.
  • Working knowledge of AS/NZ standards, and other relevant standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Relevant qualification in Welding Supervision, Inspection, or Quality Management (e.g. WTIA, CSWIP, or equivalent) highly regarded.
