About the Role

FMS Group is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Mechanical Supervisor to join our shutdown division across various mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin, QLD.  

We are looking for a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with proven coal mining experience and a strong leadership background supervising shutdown crews. This role is responsible for leading teams of up to 15 personnel during shutdown and project works, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This position offers ongoing shutdown opportunities across the Bowen Basin, with immediate starts available for suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical shutdown crews of up to 15 employees across multiple mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin
  • Lead shutdown maintenance and project works on draglines, shovels, and fixed plant assets.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site and company procedures
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and compliance to meet project and client expectations
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to tradespeople and shutdown personnel
  • Liaise with site management and project stakeholders to ensure successful shutdown execution
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all work activities

What You'll Bring

  • Mechanical Fitter Trade Qualification (Certificate III Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent)
  • Current S123 and G2 competencies
  • Previous coal mining experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams of up to 15 personnel
  • Proven experience in dragline, shovel, and fixed plant shutdown maintenance
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, leadership, and teamwork
  • Ability to pass pre-employment medicals and ongoing drug and alcohol testing
  • Current Coal Board Medical and Standard 11 certification
  • Current Driver's Licence

Desirable

  • Mackay-based candidates preferred
  • Experience working across multiple Bowen Basin mine sites
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and shutdown execution skills
