About the Role
FMS Group is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Major Shutdowns Structural Supervisor to join our shutdown division across the Bowen Basin, QLD. You will be working across a variety of mine sites working a 4/4/4 roster.
We are looking for a trade-qualified professional with extensive structural maintenance experience in the coal mining industry and a proven ability to lead shutdown crews in high-risk environments. This role is responsible for supervising structural maintenance, repair, and project works during major shutdowns, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
This position offers ongoing shutdown opportunities across the Bowen Basin, with immediate starts available for suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate structural shutdown crews across multiple mine sites throughout the Bowen Basin
- Lead structural maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and project works on draglines, shovels, stackers, reclaimers, conveyors, CHPP infrastructure, and fixed plant assets
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site, client, and company procedures
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to achieve shutdown objectives
- Monitor productivity, quality, and compliance to ensure project milestones and client expectations are met
- Conduct pre-starts, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety inspections throughout shutdown activities
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical support to boilermakers, welders, riggers, trade assistants, and shutdown personnel
What You'll Bring
- Trade Qualification in Boilermaking, Metal Fabrication, Engineering Fabrication, or a related structural discipline
- Current S123 and G2 competencies
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role within mining shutdowns, maintenance, or construction projects
- Proven experience in structural maintenance and repairs on draglines, shovels, CHPPs, conveyors, and fixed plant assets
- Strong knowledge of structural steel installation, repairs, welding standards, rigging activities, and heavy industry maintenance practices
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, work scopes, and shutdown schedules
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, leadership, and teamwork
- Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Current Coal Board Medical and Standard 11 certification
- Current Driver's Licence
