About the Role
This new role in our growing business is perfect for a self-starter who thrives on variety.
Far more than traditional drafting, you'll work primarily within our Workshop division, bringing together practical hands-on experience with technical design expertise across a wide range of mining equipment, mechanical designs, products and projects.
This unique opportunity will provide the selected candidate the chance to collaborate with the other divisions of FMS Group and gain a broad wealth of experience in the mining sector.
Utilise skills working within the Workshop team to refine your design & technical capability working on:
- 2D and 3D CAD packages
- Drafting

- Reverse engineering
- Stakeholder communication
- Understanding and applying relevant Australian Standards
Working within the team you will undertake a variety of activities to support the division.
Key activities you may be involved in:
- Playing a key role in heavy mining equipment refurbishment projects covering excavators, draglines, loaders, rope shovels, dozer blades, booms, and sticks using 3D scanning and CAD. Reverse‑engineering worn or damaged components for the purpose of accurate re‑manufacture, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and internal quality requirements.
- Travelling to mine sites as required to gather measurements, assess job scope, and support accurate project planning. Work directly with tradespeople on the floor, solving problems and occasionally getting hands on measuring and marking.
- Support production managers with timeline solutions, consult with business development on new opportunities, support estimators, and collaborate with engineering teams to transform designs into manufacturable products.
- Procure materials, cost control, and coordinate with subcontractors to navigate technical challenges.
- Contribute to production and safety meetings, recommend equipment investments, and drive continuous process improvement.
This diverse exposure to engineering, estimating, and project planning will accelerate your career development while building the broad experience critical to long-term success. Join our fast-paced, high-performing team to achieve outstanding results.
