HSEQ Manager – East Coast

Apply now Job no: 497908
Work type: Salary
Location: Mackay & Coalfields
Categories: Corporate/Shared Services

Lead the team. Own the systems. Make a difference.

Due to an internal transfer, FMS Group are looking for an experienced HSEQ professional who enjoys balancing strategy with action.

This is not a role where you'll spend your time simply directing others. We're looking for a hands-on leader who is equally comfortable coaching operational leaders in the field as they are reviewing management systems, conducting audits, leading investigations, maintaining ISO certification and ensuring legislative compliance.

If you're someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, solving problems and helping build safer, better workplaces, we'd like to hear from you.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager – East Coast Operations, with a strong connection to our Executive HSEQ Manager, you'll lead Health, Safety, Environment and Quality across our East Coast operations.

This role requires regular travel to client sites and provides the opportunity to lead a small HSEQ team while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day delivery of the function. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both leadership and technical HSEQ work and wants to have a genuine influence on business performance.

You'll work closely with operational leaders across workshops, client sites and projects to ensure our HSEQ systems remain practical, compliant and effective to support operational excellence.

What You'll Be Doing

This role combines operational leadership with hands-on HSEQ delivery, including:

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor and develop the East Coast HSEQ team.
  • Partner with operational leaders to strengthen safety culture and operational performance.
  • Coach supervisors and managers in practical risk management and field leadership activities.
  • Drive continual improvement initiatives across the business.
  • Provide trusted advice to senior leadership on HSEQ matters.

Compliance & Systems

  • Maintain and continually improve our integrated HSEQ Management System.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with legislation, client requirements and applicable standards.
  • Coordinate and maintain ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification requirements.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits while supporting external certification and client audits.
  • Ensure the effective management of workers compensation claims.
  • Lead incident investigations, ICAM investigations and corrective action management.
  • Engage in the review and improvement of HSEQ procedures, risk assessments, management plans and operational documentation.
  • Monitor HSEQ performance, analyse trends and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Support operational teams with practical compliance solutions across multiple locations.

About You

You'll be an experienced HSEQ professional who understands that great safety leadership is built on credibility.

You're just as comfortable conducting an audit, reviewing a procedure or investigating an incident as you are presenting to senior leaders or coaching supervisors in the field.

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior HSEQ leadership role within mining, heavy industry, construction or maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and ISO management systems.
  • Experience managing audits, investigations and integrated management systems.
  • Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • The ability to influence others through trust, knowledge and visible leadership.

Why FMS Group?

This is an opportunity to join a business where HSEQ is recognised as a critical business function.

You'll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary package.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Monthly Rostered Day Off (RDO).
  • Weekly pays – reliable and consistent.
  • Employee Referral Program – great cash rewards for referring a mate.
  • Salary packaging options – including Novate leasing.
  • GEM Awards – quarterly recognition for employees who go the extra mile.
  • Private Health discounts – savings for you and your family.
  • Length of Service Recognition – celebrating your commitment.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – support for employees and immediate family.
  • A supportive leadership team that values collaboration.
  • Genuine autonomy to influence HSEQ outcomes across the business.
  • Opportunities to drive meaningful improvements and leave a lasting impact.

If you're looking for a role where you can lead from the front and still enjoy the technical side of HSEQ, we'd love to hear from you.
