About the Role

Due to continued growth, FMS Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Purchasing Officer to join our small but dynamic office team based in Mackay.

We’re looking for a down-to-earth, energetic and well-presented person who takes pride in getting the details right and enjoys keeping things moving in a busy environment.

You’ll play an important role in supporting our purchasing and warehouse operations, working closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure goods are ordered, tracked and delivered in line with business and site requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Raising purchase orders and distributing them to suppliers.
  • Monitoring outstanding orders and following up to ensure timely delivery.
  • Checking goods received against purchase orders and investigating delivery docket discrepancies.
  • Coordinating with staff to ensure goods are received, stored and managed correctly.
  • Maintaining the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database and updating records as required.
  • Ensuring goods ordered meet relevant site and project requirements.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with suppliers.
  • Providing reliable purchasing and administration support to the wider team.
  • Keeping purchasing records accurate, organised and up to date.

About You

You’re someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a practical, can-do approach. You enjoy working with people, can manage competing priorities and take ownership of your work.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong administration and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Great customer service skills and clear face-to-face, phone and written communication.
  • The ability to multitask, prioritise and adapt in a busy environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate Microsoft Excel.
  • A willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team while taking responsibility for your own tasks.

Experience that will be highly regarded:

  • Previous purchasing or procurement administration experience.
  • Experience raising and managing purchase orders.
  • Familiarity with supplier follow-ups, goods receipting and delivery discrepancies.
  • Experience working with Logistics teams or in a mining, engineering or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and site compliance requirements.
